Tracking
Tracking
The heart of Online Fitness Log is the ability to record your daily metrics, exercise sessions, and nutritional intake. Online Fitness Log makes it quick and easy to log all of this information in just a few minutes a day. Of course there are no set rules on how often you log your data. Some like to add to their log throughout each day while others will wait until the end of the week to enter all data. Online Fitness Log is flexible enough to allow you to choose how you want to use the application.
Metrics
Metrics
Online Fitness Log defines metrics as basic health information that you will likely record on a daily basis such as heart rate, blood pressure, hours of sleep, body weight, body fat percentage, and more. Additionally, a large notes area is available to record any sort of data you can dream up. Logging metrics on a consistent basis will help you watch your weight/BMI changes, notice when you not quite rested enough for intense exercise, and aid in diagnosing your current health status.
Nutrition
Nutrition
A healthy diet is an integral part of any fitness regimen so of course Online Fitness Log includes a comprehensive nutrition tracking feature. Choose from over 7000 foods already in our database or enter as many of your own as you like. All of the foods in our database and the foods you enter yourself are capable of holding all of the information currently on the United States Food and Drug Administration food label entitled Nutrition Facts.
Reporting
Reporting
What use is recording all this data if you can’t access it in a format that allows you to make intelligent decisions? Online Fitness Log offers extensive reporting capabilities with data grids that allow sorting and filtering on just about every field. Select your date range from a list of predefined ranges or enter your own start and end dates. Most reports also display a colorful chart to make it even easier to extrapolate your data.
Forums
Forums
The Online Fitness Log community is full of individuals like you who are seeking a lifestyle of health and fitness. Many will share the same goals and likewise encounter the same obstacles in reaching those goals. Many users of Online Fitness Log are athletes or fitness professionals who can provide information and support when asked. Each Online Fitness Log account also receives full membership in the discussion boards.
Exercise
Exercise
Online Fitness Log started as an exercise log only and while we have expanded into other fitness-related areas, the exercise tracker has expanded as well. Easily log multiple exercises per day and let Online Fitness Log calculate values such as average speed, pace and calories burned. There is no limit to the number of exercises you can record each day. Use the exercise tracker as you see fit.
Facebook Integration
Facebook Integration
Nothing keeps you motivated like sharing your workouts with your friends. Online Fitness Log lets you share as much or as little information about your activity as you like. Let your Facebook friends know that you are training and will be prepared for that next race! Also, just to make life a little simpler, you can use your Facebook account to register with and login to Online Fitness Log.
Calendar
Calendar
Quickly see which days you’ve logged data with the graphical calendar view. Colorful icons represent different log entries for metrics, exercise, and nutrition. The icons are clickable to take you directly to that portion of your log entry for that day. Easily move throughout the calendar with simple navigation that allows you to jump between months or even years with just a click or two.
Calories
Calories
Online Fitness Log tallies both calories consumed from food and calories expended from BMR and exercise to present a positive or negative balance which translates to weight gain or loss. If you are performing an exercise on a machine that calculates calories, you will have the opportunity to input that information and override the automatic calculation performed by Online Fitness Log.

Metabolic Equivalents (METs)
Metabolic Equivalents (METs)
Online Fitness Log uses METs as a unit to gauge the intensity of aerobic exercise. A single MET is equivalent to the energy necessary simply to stay alive. Online Fitness Log assigns METs values to all exercises and allows you to do the same. This number is used along with your weight and the duration of the exercise to calculate number of calories burned during the exercise.
Measurements
Measurements
Whether you're trying to lose a couple inches in your waist or gain a couple in your biceps, use our measurements tracker to see how you are progressing toward your goal. Measurement fields include neck, shoulders, biceps, forearms, chest, waist, abdomen, hips, thighs, and calves. Additionally, you can accurately track body fat measurements by entering skinfold measurements.
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
BMR is the amount of energy expended at rest sufficient only for the functioning of the vital organs. Online Fitness Log calculates your BMR using the Mifflin equation which takes into account your gender, weight, height, and age. This number is then added to the number of calories burned during exercise to get a total number of calories burned per day.
Strength
Strength
Enter detailed information about your workout with a strength log entry. Features include unlimited exercises, up to 6 sets for each exercise, and tracking of weight, reps, duration, and rest. Choose from over 100 exercises in our database or create your own. Calories burned are automatically calculated for each strength log entry.
Scheduling
Scheduling
Plan out your exercise regimen in advance with our interactive scheduling system. All it takes is a click of a button to add a workout or event to your schedule. Our scheduler supports recurrence and drag-and-drop, so it's easy to setup repeating workouts and move items around on the calendar.
Profile
Profile
Enter information about yourself such as your name and profile picture which are used to personalize the application. Birthdate, weight, height and gender are all used to calculate calories burned and BMR. Address information, phone number, emergency contact, and more are available if needed.
Other Goals
Other Goals
Not all goals fit into the weight or event categories. You can also set goals for personal bests, such as how fast you can run a mile, or ride a hundred miles. Additionally, you can create general goals as broad as just eating healthier, exercising more, or taking time out for yourself.
Log Management
Log Management
It's easy to move, copy, and delete log entries with Online Fitness Log. We have a module on the log entry pages that give you the ability to move log entries in bulk right from the page. You can also use the scheduler or calendar to easily move log entries from one day to another.
Notes
Notes
Sometimes you just need a place to write something down. In addition to a free-form notes field on all log entries, we also include a notes log entry on it's own. This can be used as a daily journal, to record additional medical information, or anything you decide you want to log.
Cardio
Cardio
Choose from over 100 exercises in our database or create your own. Cardio log entries include fields such as duration, distance, speed, steps, intensity, heart rate, power, and notes. Calories, average speed, and pace are automatically calculated for all cardio log entries.
Internationalization
Internationalization
Although Online Fitness Log is based in the United States, the application is designed to accommodate international users. Simply select which unit type you would like to use upon registration, United States or International, and your log will reflect the appropriate units.
Unit Converter
Unit Converter
Use our simple unit converter conveniently located on the log entry page to transform any numerical data into units that are accepted by the application. Enter a single value, select a unit, and Online Fitness Log will return several values converted into appropriate units.
Daily Summary
Daily Summary
The daily summary page is a one-stop location to view all of your data for a particular day. All cardio and strength exercises, nutritional intake, calorie comparisons, Body Mass Index, Basal Metabolic Rate, metrics, measurements, and notes are displayed on a single page.
Weight Goals

Are you trying to achieve a particular weight by a certain date? Use our weight goal tool to modify your daily caloric intake, weekly exercise hours, and goal weight, and we'll tell you how much you can lose or gain per week and when you will reach your weight goal.
USDA Database
USDA Database
Online Fitness Log is integrated with the USDA National Nutrient Database, which provides nutritional data for thousands of foods. Of course, if you can't find what you need in the USDA database, you can search other member's custom foods or create your own.
Localization

When you sign up, you can select the locale in which you reside so that the application can format numbers and dates appropriately. Also, the application will attempt to read your timezone so that any times displayed are local to you.

These reports are designed to give you an overall view of totals, averages, minimums, and maximums for a particular date range. They are useful to help you notice acheivements, low points, and overall training load.
Custom Lists
Custom Lists
Custom Lists are applied to metrics, exercises, nutrition, or all. These custom fields allow you to record any information in list form. For example, they can be used for tracking location of exercises such as running in the park or at home on the treadmill. The lists are added directly to your log entry screen and can be typed into with the new values automatically added to the list without accessing another screen. Select ‘All’ as your list type and the custom list will be added to each log entry screen – metrics, exercise, and nutrition.
Custom Exercises
Custom Exercises
Add as many custom exercises as you like while supplying METs data so that the application can calculate calories. Don’t worry if you don’t know this information, just click the help icon and look at the METs values for existing exercises and choose one that feels similar in intensity. Custom exercises are also a good way to separate out different types of exercise such as with cycling – mountain biking, road biking, cyclocross, track, etc.
Customization
Customization
It’s quite difficult to build an application that meets everyone’s needs and wants. To that end, Online Fitness Log allows you to create your own fields to track any data that isn’t already built into the application. If you want to track data that doesn’t exist and can’t find a way to do it with custom fields, simply send us a quick note about what you want.
Meals
Meals
Do you eat the same foods on a regular basis? If so, you can save a ton of time entering your nutritional data by creating meals. Say you have a turkey sandwich for lunch on a regular basis. Instead of logging bread, turkey, cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato, etc. each time, just create a meal with these foods and add it to your log entry with a single click.
Detail Reports
Detail Reports
Detail reports are designed to provide you with the exact information you need. Each report can be filtered by date and you can specify the fields you want to display. Each field can be further filtered with various operators and values and sorted as necessary. You can also generate a chart from the data and export the data to several different formats.
Workouts
Workouts
Online Fitness Log makes it easy to record exercises that you do on a regular basis. Instead of manually adding each exercise of a strength workout each time you need to make an entry, simply create a workout consiting of all the exercises and corresponding values, then record that workout with the click of a button.
Custom Foods
Custom Foods
There’s no way we could list all the foods available to a person to consume. Therefore, Online Fitness Log let’s users create their own foods. Each food can accommodate all of the information on a nutrition label including calories, fat, cholesterol, sodium, potassium, carbohydrate, fiber, sugars, and protein.
Dashboard
Dashboard
The first page you see upon logging into your Online Fitness Log account is your dashboard. The dashboard is designed to give you a quick overview of the information that's important to you. To that end, it is completely customizable. You can choose from a variety of different modules and charts and organize them on the page in a manner that works best for you.
